To think or not to think. That is the question.
Monday, May 7, 2012 [7:43 AM]

That *is* the question isn't it?

No, not really. Actually, Shakespeare was the original guy who came up with that line, and it went more like "To be or not to be. That is the question".

Amazing how he made a statement about something being a question. Most people would have stopped at the question.

But instead of "To be or not to be", my more frequent dilemma is the choice between thinking or not thinking.  Have you ever found yourself trapped between logic and emotion when making a decision? Who should take the lead - your head or your heart?

When your head takes the lead, you end up focusing on what the best course of action is. You know fully well what you should do and how you should do it. But doing what you should instead of doing what you want has a price tag attached to it. Your heart reacts by screaming. Silently.

If you let your heart take the lead instead, you sometimes end up making really stupid decisions. Think of the times you said 'Screw it' - only to find yourself wallowing in regret after. Yeah, we can definitely mine great lessons out of our mistakes, but is that really a wise thing to do? Ignoring consequences for the sake of feeling free and 'living life'?

Mistakes maybe important life lessons to us, but that doesn't mean we should go all out in making them. Most mistakes come with a price. Most of the things it costs us are obvious, but some are not. Sometimes we fail to consider that making a particular mistake opens the door for us to make the same mistake over and over and over again.

Most of the time, the heart is more powerful than the mind (it's biological. the limbic system is more primitive and will trump the neo-frontal cortex when emotions are charged), so the time in which we're NOT emotionally charged is very important - it allows us to form the right desires and pursue pleasure that is pure and innocent.

That's it Jerald. Think as much as you can before you get caught up in your emotions/gut. Consequences matter. For love and honour.
